Why minimum wage differs by region

The Philippines doesn't have one national minimum wage — it has seventeen, one per region, each set by its own Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board through a wage order. Rates can differ by more than ₱300 a day between regions, and some wage orders even set separate floors within a region depending on industry, employer size, or municipality class. This tool shows the highest rate currently in force for each region; check your specific wage order if your employer falls under a lower-tier classification.

The monthly and hourly figures shown here are computed the same way as our Daily Rate Converter — monthly equivalent = (daily rate × 261) ÷ 12, and hourly rate = daily rate ÷ 8.

Quick Answers to Common Questions

Do minimum wage earners pay income tax?
No. Statutory minimum wage earners are exempt from income tax on their basic pay, holiday pay, overtime pay, night shift differential, and hazard pay under Republic Act No. 9504. If your payslip shows withholding tax while you earn exactly the regional minimum, raise it with HR.
Why does my region show a range in the wage order but one number here?
This calculator shows the highest rate in force for each region. Where a wage order publishes a range, the exact figure that applies to you depends on your industry, your employer's size, and sometimes your city or municipality's classification — read the full wage order text for your specific rate.
